District “Pontino” and historic cellars

March 13, 2016

District “Pontino”The District “Pontino”, located northwest of the city, occupies a very large area and is a mix of slipways, squares, canals and alleys. On one side you can see the New Fortress, on the opposite side of the district there are the Lorenesi walls.

The cellars facing the water in front of the fortress were once the place where the inhabitants of the district used to process anchovies, cod and “salacche” (typical tuscan salted fishes).
